Heat Treating and Quenching Fluids
Falcon Industrial manufactures a full line of premium quenching fluids and heat treating associated products and services.
Quenching Oils:
All Falcon quenching oils are specially formulated with a premium base oil that has exception oxidation stability and provides extended bath life and overall quenching performance in comparison to most others products on the market.
Oxidation Stability – As an oil oxidizes it forms organic acids, thus increasing its acid number. The formation of these oxidized acids in a basic mineral oil decreases the stability of the vapor phase and increases the cooling rate of an quenching fluid. Thus increasing the risk of distortion and cracking. By using a premium oil which is inherently oxidation stable, the DuraQuench line of oils significantly reduces the formation of these acids.
High Flash Points – The DuraQuench series of quenching oil all minimize the hazard of fire by utilizing high flash point materials.
Viscosity Index – All DuraQuench oils have higher viscosity indexes when compared to similar queching oils of the same viscosity at 40°C. This means the DuraQuench line has a lower tendency for viscosity to decrease as temperatures rise. Allowing quench baths to run at higher temperatures and higher tonnage of part throughput without jeopardizing the oils cooling speeds and alloy tempering.
DuraQuench K – Fast Speed Quenching Oil
DuraQuench G – Medium Speed Quenching Oil
DuraQuench M – Marquenching / Martemperting or Slow Quenching Oil
Poylmer Quenchants:
The DuraQuench series of non-flammable, polymeric quenchants have a wide variety of differing properties and great flexibility of quenching performance characteristics which are easily controlled through poylmer selection, polymer concentration, temperature of the bath and degree of agitation. DuraQuench polymeric quenchants are all water-soluble and are generally run between 5 – 30% concentrations. Once diluted, this aqueous solution of a liquid organic polymers and corrosion inhibitors produces a homogeneous solution. At temperatures above 165°F (74°C), however, the polymer separates from water as an insoluble phase, which replicates quench oil-like performance and uniformly coats alloys to ensure even temperature distribution and high hardenability. Falcon has a fully formulated line of polymeric quenchants including PAG, PVP and nitrite-free options.
